Norway 1st, 3rd, 5th in U23 road race. Norway and Canada have a similar climatic conditions, both are economically stable and developing countries. Norway has chosen to concentrate on Road Cycling which is booming in their nation, Canada has chosen to concentrate on Track cycling which is a big question mark in terms of future development. Road Cycling is in full boom in popularity here too.
In fact, Canada didn't have enough under 23 points from international (UCI) races. How come? Because we didn't field a national team at the majority of the events designed for under 23 development (Nations Cups, Tour de l'Avenir). Our figureheads are too busy convincing riders that they need to be on the track rather than going with the natural will of the talented riders. At Road World Championships, Canada had no starters, Norway had 6 starters and fielded a complete team, 3 of which were in the top 5.
The rhetorical question is why are we Canadians continually missing the boat in terms of Road Cycling development?

It’s sad to see that the national team is going to kill a complete generation because of this choice. Specialy after we prooved that working on the road for the road was the best way to do it : Christian Meier (GreenEdge), David Veilleux (Europcar), Guillaume Boivin (Canondale), Hugo Houle (AG2R) et moi, Europcar. I hope that they are not going to realize it when it’ll be to late
