I chose a happy photo of me to share a rather decisive/sad news.

Sadly my team will not start today in Vuelta Ciclista a Navarra. Despite all the frustration and the disappointment I am feeling right now, especially after preparing so well for the event, I felt a sense of relief when I heard the UCI wouldn’t bodge on the enforcement of the Covid-19 protocole.

Being a member of a smaller continental team, it was difficult for me to come to peace with the idea our team, first hand, couldn’t afford to proceed to all the testing required to participate in the races and the fact that even if I took the initiative to follow the provided steps, the rest of my squad wouldn’t necessarily, potentially putting me at risk but also my fellow riders in other teams.

I am 100% sure if the team could easily put down this amount of money to secure everyone they would, and I was a little hurt to see and read statements on social media blaming continental teams for not being responsible and bringing shame to them in some cases when to me these reactions come more from uneducated grounds rather then knowledge.

Unity and kindness is more then ever needed as the pandemic status is growing day after day, I also feel very uneasy with the fact that we are actually gathering and taking part in a very social event in a location registered as a “hot spot” for the virus’s second outbreak.

Rather then putting the fault on smaller teams, the organization or even the CPA or the UCI, I think we should have a harder thinking on our actions our own decisions and our morals values first hand.

This is just not an easy question and it doesn’t come with an easy answer. We did take actions to take the test and hope we will be able to take part in the races tomorrow and sunday if everything goes smoothly and I am very glad and feel a lot more comfortable with having the peace of mind that I am not a risk to my fellow riders and nether they are a risk to me.

But I will ask once again to more privileged and lucky riders whom have the resources to follow the directives not to look down at other continental teams. Let’s stay united and kind. Let’s keep our smiles.
