2 years later, my precious bike is back!

« FOUND!!! 2 years later, my precious bike is back! An incredible story!

2 years ago my bike was stolen in Tucson after finishing a training ride on Mount Lemmon. An outpouring support from the Tucson and cycling community followed, my bike was on the news, posts and articles were shared, I would even get recognized at the grocery store! But my bike never turned up.

2 years later, it’s a French-Canadian, Claude, living in Tucson, who stumbled upon it after buying an abandoned storage unit on auction.

When him and his friend Kyle tried to figure out what kind of bike it was, they did a google image search of the bike, and what they found is all of the articles and social media posts about my bike!

In the description, I had mentioned there was a sticker with the letter EW for Ellen Watters. Only then they knew without a doubt, that this was my bike. Thank you Ellen for sticking (litterally) with my bike all this time.

When they found out - thanks to the media - that this bike belonged to a Canadian female athlete, they couldn’t do anything else but to give it back. That’s what they did.

What’s incredible is that, if it wasn’t for the media, they would have just sell the bike without ever knowing.

And what’s even more incredible, is that my bike was found in perfect condition, exactly how I last rode it, with no trace of having been ridden by someone else. I’m truly blessed.

So THANK YOU to Claude and Kyle for doing the right thing, to KOLD News 13 in Tucson, to Canadian Cycling Magazine, and to all of you who shared and offered help and support when it happened.

My bike is back!!! »
